Our Lord Jesus Christ founded His Holy Church upon the Apostle Peter. It was unto this humble fisherman, the first among the Twelve, that Our Lord gave the Keys, making Peter the Seneschal of His Kingdom. Peter’s office, this direct link to the Authority of Christ Our Saviour, has been passed on, down the line of the Bishops of Rome to the present day.
