Welcome to the Bullarium Project! The project began when I found a 17th Century copy of the Bullarium Romanum on Ebay. Having a great interest in Church history, and not being able to find many Papal Bulls online, I decided - with encouragement from several good friends - to purchase the Bullarium and publish it on the internet. This was the original impetus that led to the creation of TheCatholicLibrary.org.
There are many challenges to
this project. The Tomes themselves are fragile, and directly scanning
the pages has thus been ruled out. The plan is to photograph each page,
using a digital camera and tripod, and post the pictures on this site.
The text of the pages will then be typed up and
added to the site. Another challenge is that the text is in period style,
with "f" for "s" in many places, among other typographical customs. Also, there are bound to be
typographical errors, which will need to be corrected by cross checking
the Bulls with other sources. Finally, it is hoped that we will be able
to find enough willing Latinists that we will be able to provide
translations of all the text in the volumes.
We are forging ahead slowly but surely, in the hopes that this project will provide a valuable resource to both Catholics and non-Catholics. For help in this undertaking we ask for the intercession of all the holy Popes: Saints Peter, Linus, Cletus, Clement I, Evaristus, Alexander I, Sixtus I, Telesphorus, Hyginus, Pius I, Anicetus, Soter, Victor I, Eleutherius, Zephyrinus, Callistus, Urban I, Pontain, Anterus, Fabian, Cornelius, Lucius I, Stephen I, Sixtus II, Dionysius, Felix I, Eutychian, Caius, Marcellinus, Marcellus I, Eusebius, Miltiades, Sylvester I, Marcus, Julius I, Damasus I, Siricius, Anastasius I, Innocent I, Zosimus, Boniface I, Celestine I, Sixtus III, Leo I (the Great), Hilarius, Simplicius, Felix II, Gelasius I, Anastasius II, Symmachus, Hormisdas, John I, Felix III, Agapetus I, Silverius, Gregory I (the Great), Boniface IV, Deusdedit, Martin I, Eugene I, Vitalian, Agatho, Leo II, Benedict II, Sergius I, Gregory II, Gregory III, Zachary, Paul I, Leo III, Paschal I, Leo IV, Nicholas I (the Great), Adrian III, Leo IX, Gregory VII, Pius II, Pius V, Pius X; and Blesseds Victor III, Urban II, Eugene III, Gregory X, Innocent V, Benedict XI, Urban V, Innocent XI, Pius IX, John XXIII - ora pro nobis!
